Sleek and sexy hairstyles don't have to take hours to create. If you are comfortable working with your hair, you can design beautiful new styles for yourself in just minutes. Once you know how your hair responds to heat, humidity, rain, styling products and other factors, you can quickly and easily style your hair for any occasion.

Even if you don't know what to expect from your hair, try these unbeatable tips for a quick fix or a lasting style!

Washing and Drying Hair Tips:

Avoid over-washing your hair. If you can stand it, try not to wash your hair with shampoo every single day. For days that you do not wash your hair, apply a fragrant mist designed especially to refresh tresses.

Don't apply shampoo directly to the top of your head. Apply shampoo from the nape of the neck first, and then work it through the rest of your hair.

Distribute cleansing and styling products evenly through your hair. When you apply conditioner, use a comb to spread the product evenly through your hair.

Lessen trauma to your hair. Try to avoid wrapping your hair in a towel and leaving it twisted up on your head for long. It may be convenient, but it can damage your hair.

Avoid blow-drying your hair everyday. Allow your hair to dry naturally whenever possible, whether you shower at night or let your hair dry over the weekend.

Hair Styling Tips:

Accessorize! On days when you just don't have time, go for a ponytail or a headband. Realize that your hair can look really cute even if you dont spend a long time styling it.

Experiment with color. If you find yourself constantly bored with your hair, a new color might be all you need to add some zest to your appearance. Still a little wary of dying your hair? Try a brand that washes out in eight shampoos.

Opt for a new haircut. Colors and accessories do lend a lot to a hairstyle; however, haircuts are the true standby for a new look.

Select styling tools to vary your look. Curling irons, flatirons, combs, pins, clips and an assortment of brushes offer nice diversity for hairstyles.

If all else fails, wear it straight. If you don't feel like fighting with your hair today, wear it down. For hair that behaves rather well, consider letting your hair dry naturally. If your hair requires more maintenance, apply a gentle styling product to prevent frizzy hair. Remember, a sexy, straight hairstyle can be perfect with any outfit, for any occasion.

If your hair is dry and frizzy, bad hair days may seem to come up more often than not. What can you do to have more good hair days or banish bad hair days forever? A simple change of routine may be what you need.
If you looked at hair strands under a microscope, you would see that hair in good condition looks relatively smooth; if you see any “shingles,” they lie flat like the shingles on a new roof. Dry, frizzy (possibly chemically damaged) hair appears cracked and like the “shingles” are sticking up and out at odd angles. For dry and frizzy hair, conditioning is of the utmost importance. Conditioners make the “shingles” of the hair’s cuticle (outer layer) lie down.

There are different kinds of conditioner and you need to look for the words “for dry hair” or “for frizzy hair” or “for controlling frizz”…anything along those lines will be ideal. These conditioners are generally thicker than conditioners made for normal or fine hair. Dry-hair conditioners are made to weigh the hair down somewhat and smooth down the cuticle.

Rinse-out conditioners are usually inexpensive and found next to the shampoos they’re made to complement on store shelves. For dry hair, it’s better to comb the conditioner through (with a wide-tooth comb) in the shower and rinse without disturbing. Just let the water run down the shaft of the hair. The hair should feel slippery at this point, which is what you want.

Dry-hair conditioners are usually paired with dry-hair shampoos. These shampoos often have emollient ingredients in them to be gentler on hair than traditional shampoos. They shouldn’t strip the hair of its natural oils. You should avoid frequent shampooing for the same reason (no stripping). Once or twice a week is usually enough to shampoo dry hair. In between shampoos, you can still cleanse your hair with “conditioner washing.” Just wet your hair, comb conditioner through thoroughly and then rinse. This is usually helpful to people who exercise frequently and need to rinse perspiration from the scalp, but don’t want to dry their hair out.
For hair that’s damaged, a reconstructive or deep conditioner may be in order. These conditioners, which are normally mud-like in texture, are meant to be left on the hair any length of time from a few minutes to an hour or so. Some instruct users to use a plastic cap and/or heat to get the full benefit of conditioning.

Silicone products can smooth down the cuticle, making it appear smoother. There are several lines of silicone smoothers that can be found in drugstores or salons. These are meant to be applied to freshly shampooed hair while the hair is still wet and then air-dried or blow-dried. For dry hair, it’s best to use a diffuser, which is a tool that can be attached to the end of the blow dryer to diffuse the heat in a larger area instead of concentrating the heat in one space.

Gels are also good products for smoothing hair, but be careful not to use gels with a high alcohol concentration since alcohol is drying. There are gels made specifically for frizzy hair and these contain low or no alcohol.

Too much heat applied to hair can also damage it or dry it out further. You’ll have to be judicious about the use of curling irons, flat irons, and hairdryers. The higher the heat or the longer heat is applied the more damage that can be done. Again, a diffuser is often dry hair’s best friend. It’s also better to use the low setting on a dryer.

If your hair is damaged beyond repair, whether from overzealous perming or coloring, the only way to achieve healthy hair is to cut the damaged portion off. It may be best to consult with a professional for this. Under no circumstances should you perm or color hair that’s already damaged.

To find which products work best for you, you may have to experiment. Once you find what works, stick with it. If a product makes a claim that sounds too good to be true, it probably is. If a drugstore brand works better for you than a high-end salon brand, stick with the drugstore brand. Just because it’s more expensive doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the best for you.

With a few simple tweaks to your hair-care routine, you may find yourself having more and more good hair days until your bad hair days are a thing of the past.

Genetics and hereditary are usually blamed for the cause of baldness and falling hair. To slow down the rate of hair loss or baldness, you can try vitamin supplements.

To lessen the amount of hair loss, try getting more Vitamin B complex. Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) can be found in cheese, eggs, milk, fish, green vegetables, kidney, and yeast. Biotin (Coenzyme R, Vitamin H) found in egg yolk, milk, fruits, nuts, and unpolished rich may help as a preventive treatment for baldness.

Consult with your doctor and ask how much vitamin supplements to take to help prevent baldness.

Inositol, a Vitamin B complex, is said to help promote healthy hair and help in preventing hair from falling out. This can be found in health foods such as cabbage, cantaloupe, grapefruit, liver, peanuts, raisins, and wheat germ.

We have about 100,000 hairs on our heads. Each hair shaft has three layers, with the cuticle, or outside layer, protecting the two inner layers.

Shiny hair is a sign of health because the layers of the cuticle lie flat and reflect light. When the scales of the cuticle lie flat they overlap tightly, so the inner layers are well protected from heat, sun, chlorine, and all the other hazards that can come from living in our environment. When hair is damaged, though, the scales may separate and hair can become dry. Because the scales on dry hair don't protect the inner two layers as well, hair can break and look dull.

The type of hair a person has — whether it's straight or curly — can also affect how shiny it is. Sebum, which is the natural oil on the hair, covers straight hair better than curly hair, which is why straight hair can appear shinier.

Depending how long a person's hair is or how fast it grows, the end of each hair shaft can be a couple of years old. So the hair at the end of the shaft could have survived a few summers of scorching sun and saltwater and winters of cold, dry air. How well you care for your hair from the time it emerges from the root plays a role in how healthy it looks.

If you have dandruff, do not worry about being alone with your problem. With one out of every two people in the entire world having, or having had, that same problem as yours, you are definitely not alone with it. Dandruff is a common hair problem. Embarrassing indeed, but a very, very common problem nonetheless.
What causes dandruff? Well, you see, our entire skin, from our scalps to the soles of our feet, sheds dead skin cells on a daily basis. We get a complete coating of new skin every 28 days or so, but we hardly even notice it.

Our bodies also play host to a lot of microorganisms like bacteria and fungi, feeding off on the sebaceous oils that our skin produces. Our scalp in particular is home to a kind of fungus called malassezia fungus, and its food is the oils produced by the hair follicles of our scalp. Dandruff happens when, for some reason or another, the malassezia fungus goes crazy and irritates our scalp, causing the dead skin to shed a lot faster. So, instead of shedding the dead skin cells of our scalp for a month, the shedding happens in less than two weeks, and the oil that our hair follicles produce cause these dead skin cells to clump together and become dandruff. Until now, the factors that trigger this phenomenon with the malassezia fungus are still the subject of research.
Dandruff is an embarrassing hair condition, and it can recur despite your best efforts. But with proper hair care, the recurrence of dandruff can be controlled. The best way to keep the flakes at bay is to shampoo your hair every day - picture perfect hair.

Dandruff can, of course, become stubborn, so if washing everyday with your regular shampoo does not stop the flakes from becoming haywire, the next best thing to do would be to start using anti-dandruff shampoos. Look for anti-dandruff shampoos with zinc pyrithione, selenium sulfide, salicylic acid or ketoconazole as the active ingredient. To keep your scalp from developing immunity to these shampoos, go ahead and rotate brands at least once a month.

For optimum results, you can lather your hair with the shampoo of your choice twice. The first wash will clear the scalp of the flakes and the oil buildup. The second one would let the chemicals in the shampoo get absorbed by the scalp - haute hair.
You can also try homemade remedies to wash the flakes away and to keep the dandruff from recurring. What is considered the best homemade remedy to dandruff is a vinegar wash. Mix two teaspoons of vinegar with six teaspoons of water and rub it against your scalp before you go to bed, then wrap your head with a towel. Apply the same solution to your hair once again in the morning when you wake up, then rinse it with water. You do not have to worry about the smell of vinegar in your hair, as the smell of vinegar does evaporate eventually.
Whatever you do, never, ever scratch the clumps with your fingernails. It will cause wounds on your scalp.

Dandruff is an embarrassing hair condition, but it is not unmanageable. Just take good care of your hair and the flakes will go away.

Damaged Hair care

Undoing the damage caused to the hair will take both time and effort. But it is definitely not a daunting task. While certain specific products do have the ability to repair the hair, in some rare cases very little can be done to the damaged hair. The only solution in such cases would be to wait for new hair to grow. Some of the solutions for damaged hair care include:

Avoid daily washing of hair unless it is extremely necessary. Washing hair daily is recommended for those who lead an active outdoor or athletic life. As long as the hair stays reasonably clean and easy to manage, hair can be washed once in about 3 days. Daily washing strips the scalp of its essential oils. Use shampoos that are protein enriched and don't wash away the natural oils.

Do not rub the hair vigorously as excess friction can cause hair to break off.

Always use a wide toothed comb and comb the hair gently. Do not comb hair when it is wet, as the hair is very weak. And do remember that back-combing is one of the causes of hair breakage.

Keep hair hydrated with mild shampoo and rich conditioner. Use extra gentle shampoo for color treated hair. Use a conditioner that contains protein. Hair conditioner improves the colorant in dyed hair and imparts smoothness to the hair. Moisture and protein content in the conditioner protects the hair from harmful sun rays and harsh winds by forming a film on the hair shaft. Conditioner is very essential for dry, brittle and damaged hair. Rinse conditioner thoroughly as the residue can make hair dull and unmanageable.

Allow hair to dry naturally. If at all hair dryer must be used, then turn it on at its lowest setting. Heat from dryers, curling tongs and other styling equipments are damaging to hair.

Try wearing a hat or scarf when going out in the sun.

The sun's UV rays are harmful not only to the skin but also to the hair. Excessive exposure in the sun makes the hair dry. So use a leave-in conditioner or a protecting spray.

A weekly head massage strengthens the roots and improves blood circulation. Doing it even for two to three minutes will stimulate the scalp and prove effective.

Do not bleach the hair very often as it strips the hair of its natural oils.

Experts recommend the use of a drop of silicone serum to smooth down hair cuticle and add a bit of shine.

Remember that everything sharp and hard will harm the hair.

Deep conditioning treatment is the best solution for damaged hair. It can be done weekly under expert guidance.

For tying up, hair larger bands are always better than smaller ones.

Always wash hair with low temperature water as hot water dissolves the natural scalp oil. It is the scalp oil which provides protection and natural shine to the hair shaft.

Do brush your hair before showering. This helps in preventing tangles. Also, while shampooing do not pile up all your hair on top of your head, as this will also result in unnecessary tangling of hair, which in turn will result in breakage.

Do not use too much of shampoo as the harsh chemicals in it are liable to harm the hair in the long run. An ideal shampoo should be neither highly acidic nor alkaline.

Try to find out whether the product you are using is suitable for your hair. Only time and constant experimentation will tell which product works best for you. Hair product manufacturers offer different products for varying seasons. As climatic conditions also play a part in damaging the hair, it would be a good idea to use different products for summer and winter.

Frequently trim the hair to avoid split ends. And do remember that usage of good quality scissors is a vital part of a good hair care regimen.

While holidaying near the sea, hair must be thoroughly cleaned of all sand and salt. It is advisable to apply oil or conditioner and a tight fitting cap if you are swimming in a pool.

While women in the Asian countries have oiled their hair for centuries, usage of oil as a conditioner is gaining popularity all over. Hair experts recommend using jojoba oil.

Steaming of hair allows opening of the pores and allows deeper penetration of the vital ingredients in the conditioners.

Take a good, healthy diet rich in proteins. Additional supplements can also be taken under medical supervision in cases of pregnancy and illness.

Hair and Facts
Many misapprehensions are there about our hair and its care and concerns. Once we know the truth, the solution for hair dispute becomes rational and commonsensical and we can well be familiar with it to give real good care. The most extensively held false impression relating to hair is that it is live organic material, and everyone thinks that newly discovered commercial medicine/any hair related product would solve the condition. This is a wrong notion that people have in their mind but the truth is that hair is only living matter at its base below the surface of the scalp and not on it's tip. This means each person discards about 60 hairs from their head everyday. If one has longer hair it may give the fake looks that they are shedding more hair daily than the average amount. One should only be alarmed if the hair being shed daily is not being replaced by new hair growth.
